Any talented singer aged 18 or over may apply for membership of Somerset Chamber Choir. Because rehearsals only take place over six weekends per year it is not necessary to currently live in Somerset, although the choir does prefer members to have some link, past or present, with the county or one of its neighbours.
As a result of the limited rehearsal period, the choir looks to recruit strong singers
who have a pure quality of sound, good sight reading skills and are able to commit
to working on the music between rehearsals. Good attendance is also expected -
We currently have a few vacancies for very strong singers only, who have experience of choral singing.
How can I join?
Simply fill out the application form on the right and the choir will get in touch with you.
Successful applicants are invited to join the next available set of rehearsals; they are then asked to sing briefly (and confidentially) for the conductor at the end of the rehearsal (singing a little of the music learned during the day, and a few basic listening and singing tests) and, if that works out OK, membership is then confirmed.
There are two types of membership:
FULL MEMBERSHIP
Full membership entitles you to be able to sing in every concert (subject to payment of subscription and sufficient rehearsal attendance).
TEMPORARY MEMBERSHIP
The Choir sometimes recruits extra voices on a temporary basis, one concert at a time. If you think this may suit you better, we will keep you on our database and you will be invited to sing with us occasionally, whenever the need arises.
